Week 2 Interview with Coach Mo
|
| |
SORSN: It’s FOOTBALL FRIDAY! Tell us coach, what has this week’s practice like?
Coach Moser: We practiced Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
SORSN: The biggest improvement is said to happen between the first and second game. What did the team work on to improve this week?
Coach Moser: Making sure we get in a good position during water breaks so the crowd can see us.
SORSN: Harriman has a lot of speed but proved to be ineffective against Kingston in week 1. What will the Waves need to do to make Harriman 0-2 in the county?
Coach Moser: Score more points than them.
SORSN: Does it make any sense that the entire football team stands at the most dangerous intersection in the county?
Coach Moser: That is way down the list on things that don't make sense to me.
SORSN: We've heard from a person inside the Ramey campaign that a recount has been initiated but some question the methods involved. SORSN.com was able to obtain this quote. "Not since the bribing of the refs at Donelson Christian has Jack Daniels been more involved in an officiating role.” In case Ralph’s political career doesn’t pan out, is the team any closer to signing a deal to have him perform at the home games?
Coach Moser: I'm more worried about our football team performing at home games right now.

Week 2 Pick Panel Predictions
|
| |
The Waves start the season 0-1 after a tough loss to a very good Wartburg team. This week, the Waves travel to Harriman to face the 0-1 Blue Devils. Harriman lost 15-33 to Kingston last week. Last year, the Blue Devils edged out the Waves, 21-14.
Can the Waves recover and defeat our county demon foes? Boys & gal…make your picks!
Michael Rose: After last week, I am still of the opinion that the Waves are going to have to show me a win before I am going to go on a limb and pick them in an upset. As much as I hate to do it, I will take Harriman in a tough one.
Barry Narramore: This team needs a big win, and this week would be a great time for that to happen. Last week the Green had a good chance to lay down and quit, behind 14-0 but they fought back to a 14-14 halftime tie. If not for an uncalled pass interference call on a pass from Viar to Davidson early in the third the Green should have been ahead 21-14. I'm looking for this team to have gained some experience this last week and win some games. I think this week will be their week. Give me the Green team. I wouldn't pick Harriman Blue if Peyton Manning was their QB!!!!
Randy Rose: Tough loss last week for the Waves. I think the Green will get better and would love to see a win at Harriman this week, but I'm going to pick Harriman at home in a close one.
Ralton Emory: This week the Waves go across county to battle the Torquoise Demons from Harriman. The Torquoise boys suffered a lost to Kingston last week, but they did have some pretty cool pictures in the local paper. :) I expect the Waves coaching staff to have the guys prepared with an excellent game plan. The Waves will need to respond with a winning attitude. Who knows...there may even be a flea-flicker in the cards or the statue of liberty play up a sleeve. I hope differently, but I think Harriman will pull this out: Torquoise Demons 21, Midway 14.
Amber Johnson: Saw some things at the season opener that surprised me. We have a small team, but they played hard and weren't afraid to put a hit on someone. There were some defensive breakdowns that caused some big yardage plays, but overall the defense swarmed the ball which was good to see. The first half of the ballgame, the offense had some good moments. The slant pass from (I think) twenty five yards out for a td was a shot in the arm for the green team. We are gonna have to find a way to mix it up on offense though. The passing game suffered late in the game due to no threat on the ground. Even though, i think we will continue to improve, I have to go with Harriman on this one. Word is they have a pretty good team. Sorry.
Kyle Can-Do Canup If Midway can contain the outside and keep a constant offense they should do ok. If things fall right into place and maybe they got rid of those jitters, Midway could pull one out. So with that said I got Midway pulling a close one out.

Tiger Bunch edges Jr Waves, 8-6
|
| |
Coming off a disappointing showing at Rockwood in week 0, the Jr Waves made the excruciating drive up highway 27 to Sunbright and waiting at the top of the hill would be Sunbright’s All-Everything, Tyler Bunch.
But it would be Midway’s defensive “bunch” that made a name for themselves. Anchored by Ethan Crabtree who had an excellent game at nose guard, the Midway defense held the Tigers scoreless all 4 quarters; it would be a kick-off return that would be the difference in this ball game.
Neither offense was able to generate points in the first half. The Midway Greenwaves kicked off to Sunbright to start the 3rd and held their ground; forcing a punt. The Jr Waves would put together a nice series, picking up a couple first downs and moving the ball with hard running from Jon Beason and Zach Herron. With 3 minutes remaining in the third, Midway’s Jason Hass broke free and would race 30 yards to the dance floor and giving the Waves a 6-0 lead. Sunbright’s Tyler Bunch kept Beason from crossing the goal line, and saved the 2-point conversion.
The Greenwaves didn’t have long to celebrate. Tyler Bunch would take the ensuing kickoff and shed 3 tacklers on his way to the end zone. He followed it up with the 2-point conversion and gave the Tigers an 8-6 lead.
The Midway defense kept Bunch in check the entire game, but the Midway offense couldn’t escape the claws of Tyler Bunch and the Tigers. The game ended with an 8-6 Sunbright win but it was a complete turnaround from week 0 in the play & performance from the boys in Green that will have the coaches & fans pleased going into week 2.

Week 1 Pick Panel Predictions
|
| |
Its football time SOR and time to start up the pick panel. Week 1 features the boys from the south against the Wartburg Bulldogs. Wartburg opened the season last week with a 26-7 win over Monterey. Last year, the Waves traveled up Hwy 27 and opened the season with a 14-0 over Wartburg. What can we expect from the Waves this year? Word around the local watering hole is this: 1. They play hard….real hard…will do anything that is asked. 2. Strong but not big. 3. Slow. Last year, the Rose brothers tied for 1st place in the pick panel with a record of 8-2. Ralton “Mule” Emory finished at 7-3, followed by “the girl” Amber Johnson at 6-4. Kyle Canup (4-6) edged out Barry Boo Narrmare who finished at 2-8. Yes, 2-8…and I’m pretty sure he was trying.
Lady & Gents…make your picks! Boogity boogity boogity…let’s play some football!
Amber Johnson: I don't know what to expect out of the green team this year. As I get older (yikes), I know fewer and fewer players on the team. Even though the Dawgs have a one game advantage over the Waves, I'm gonna give them the benefit of a doubt. Shake off those first game jitters, and come out hitting. Go Green!
Ralton Emory: New season. Home opener. Are you ready for some SOR Football?!!!!? The season starting signals lower temps and fun Friday nights. The Chiwawa-dogs from Morgan County think they have that ship turned around. After an impressive Week 0 victory over the Monterrey "Jack Cheeseheads", the Chiwawa-dogs look to make a 2-0 start during their trip to the Emerald Forrest. It's going to be entertaining and great for all who attend. I had several players tell me..."If we play, we'll win."...Which is a similar statement to "The team with the most points wins." But the truth is...that's true. If Midway shows up to play, they'll win. If not, it could be a week one upset for the Chiwawa-dogs. Midway 27 - Wartburg Chiwawa-dogs 26 Hang on to your hats boys and girls; this one is going to be fun.
Barry Narramore: My question is who has got better during the off-season? Reports from Wartburg are that they think they are a lot better team. Midway showed signs that they are a better team with a strong showing at Meigs County in a pre-season scrimmage. The Green had Wartburg’s number last year and I think they will get’em again this year. Let’s go Green!!!
Randy Rose: Great to see it's football time again. Good Luck this year to the young men in Green. A tough opener for the Green team as the Bullies from Wartburg have a game played (and a win) already this season. But they have to come down the mountain to South of the River and I think the Waves will be ready to get it on at home. Give me Midway in a tough, hard fought, close game.
Kyle Canup: Well I don know a lot about this year’s team except from word of mouth, and I’ve heard a lot of good and some bad. From what I’ve been told they play hard and go at it hard, so if they keep up that mentality they'll be good to go on Friday nights. I hope Coach MO and his team doesn’t disappoint, I guess we'll find out Friday night. So without knowing a lot about how they play I’m gonna pick the WAVES in a win, and I mean c'mon its Wartburg.
Attention Wartburg fans, contact sorsn if you want Kyle’s home address.
Michael Rose: This Waves team is going to have to assume that I am from Missouri and "show me" some things before I am convinced of their status. Unfortunately, I am picking Wartburg Central, which brings up a bigger question, when did they add the Central? Has it always been Wartburg Central and my and Mule Emory’s generation just missed the Central part? I need answers.
