GreenWaves – 2004 Region Champs

The Waves rolled to a 41-8 victory over the Oakdale Eagles, clinching #1 in the Region.

Midway wasted no time in putting points on the board. Midway’s Daniel “Highlight Reel” Bredwell quickly punched in back-to-back touchdowns in the 1st quarter. Blake Bray followed suit and crossed the goal line twice to put the Waves up 28-0 at the half.

With Midway’s defense smothering Oakdale’s ground game, the Eagle’s went to the air..but without success. Andrew Davidson hauled in an interception and “Swivel Hips” Myers continued to pad his stats as he came up with 2 interceptions on the night, moving him to 8 on the season as he continues to lead east Tennessee in interceptions.

Midway took advantage of the situation and worked on their passing game. O’Toole connected for big gains to Woody, Myers, and Langley.

Brian Noland, Zach Moore, and Steve “Shock And Awe” Stansbury were head hunters on defensive and Oakdale was no match for the strength of Midway’s big men.

Midway got the ball to start the 2nd half and wasted no time as O’Toole rumbled down the sideline for a 30 yard TD. With the missed extra point, Midway led 34-0 early in the 2nd half. With the game in control, the 2nd team got some needed playing time. Freshman, Eric Stansbury continued the scoring for the Waves as he finished off the scoring with a 4 yard run up the middle. Junior kicker, Tanner Roberson went 5 for 6 on PATs.

Oakdale was able to get on the board with 1 minute remaining in the 4th quarter, ending the Midway defense’s chance of back-to-back shut outs.

Midway will close out the regular season on Thursday night at Sunbright. A win at Sunbright would put the Waves at 9-1 on the season.
