Midway hauls in several awards at TVAA Cheer Competition

Article by Amy Moses

On November 19, Midway hosted the TVAA Cheer Competition at the new gym at Midway Middle School.  Squads from Kingston, Rockwood, Midway, Oliver Springs and Spring City competed for the top spots in four separate age divisions.  Routines were around three minutes and each had to perform a dance and at least one cheer or chant with stunts and gymnastics.

The Mighty-Mites took the floor first.  At ages 3-5, they were all adorable.  Rockwood placed first with a wonderful routine that showed just how hard these little ones worked.

Our Midway Mighty-Mites took home the third place trophy and with a small squad of just three, they did great.

The Crickets were up next.  This age division is from 6-7 and is expected to perform a more difficult level of stunts.  In first place was our own Midway Crickets.  The largest squad Midway has competing this year and they did a perfect routine.

Our Midway Hoppers also took home the first place trophy.  Age ranges from 8-9, the girls performed three stunts and tosses smoothly and the gymnastics were executed flawlessly.

Rounding out the competition was the Cutters.  They age from 10-11.  Most of the girls in this division have been cheering for several years and the level of difficulty is expectedly higher.  Spring City placed first with a demanding routine and our Midway Cutters placed third with a beautiful routine and with one high skill level gymnastic pass.

At the awards ceremony, the Cheer Directors from each community voted on an overall Spirit Award with Rockwood taking home the prize.  Midway took the spirit award for the Cricket and Hopper age division as well.  This award was given out by the judges to the team and community that showed the most spirit throughout the routines.

As a whole, it was a great day for the Midway community.
