Final Pick

The Midway Greenwaves (5-4 overall 2-2 District) welcome the Rockwood Tigers (5-4 overall 2-2 District) to the Emerald Forest on Friday night. For the Tigers it’s a must win in order to make it into the 2A playoffs. For Midway who clinched their playoff berth in the win over Harriman, what better way to head into the playoffs than with a win over Rockwood. The Waves offense is red hot right now, averaging 30 points per game over their last 5 games. Can they continue to put up big numbers or will the stripped cats from across the river silence the SOR crowd?

This is the final pick for the panel. We have a tie for the lead between Amber Bock Johnson and Steven Fro Sears, both at 8-1 on the year. Will long time panel member, “the” girl, hoist the Pick Panel trophy for the first time or will new comer Fro earn his right to return as a panel member in 2013?

Ralton Emory:
The Waves are set to take on the Rockhood Felines this week. Rockhood’s colors have always been green and yellow and their mascot a tiger. Question: Has anyone ever seen a green and yellow tiger? The only way that I can think of a tiger turning green is if it gets sick after eating some bad sushi.

The Tigers are in a real must win situation which will make them hungry for a win, but may also make them reckless. The Waves may pull an upset.

But I don’t think so…

Midway 19, Rockhood 23

Amber Johnson:
Go big or go home! I’m gonna go out on a limb and pick the Greenwaves in the regular season closer. This could jeopardize my standing with my “pick record” but I just don’t care. The Waves are peaking at the right time going into the post season. This should be a close game with the Waves and Tigers matching up well. Give me the “White hot Waves” in the home closer.

Tony Clower:
I believe this is the year for a Wave to hit the Tigers; I’ll take the Green Wave 20-18.

Steven Sears:
What better way to finish off the regular season than to play county rival Rockwood. Both teams come into this game with the same record, but one will be leaving with a nice 6-4 regular season record. I would first like to say that I have been impressed with Midways play over the last several weeks. After starting the season with a 1-3 record, Midway could have laid down and had a terrible season. Instead the Greenwaves didn’t give up and showed that they were a good team by showing improvement on both sides of the ball. Congratulations on making it to the playoffs. You guys deserve it. Now on to my pick! Midway has already clinched a playoff berth, and Rockwood is looking to clinch theirs with a must win this week. My heart always chooses Midway, but sometimes I have to go with my gut when I’m making a difficult pick such as this one. I’m taking Rockwood to win this week’s matchup against the Greenwaves. Rockwood has more at stake in this game and I believe they will get their must win, but it will be a close one. Like I’ve said before, please prove me wrong Midway! Rockwood 28-21 over Midway.

Kyle Canup:
So glad to see the Waves have found their way back to the playoffs and congrats on that to the team and Coach Campbell. I don’t know how the Tigers look on the field but from what I can see I think the Waves have a god shot to get a long time needed win from the tigers. Should be a good game with a lot of points put up on the board. Unfortunately I think Rockwood will edge out the waves 35-27, but would love to see the Waves diminish their playoff hopes.

Barry Boo Narramore:
The Greenwaves have surprised a lot of folks with this 5-4 record, and I’m looking for a big upset in first round of playoffs. But the green team must faceoff with the Rockwood Tigers this Friday. Rockwood will be big and physical, and the young Greenwaves team with have to really show up this week to get the win! Rockwood had Grace beat til the final seconds and should of beat Kingston. The SOR boys will need some breaks and I think they will get them. Midway 21 Rockwood 14
