Fireside Chat with Coach Justin O’Toole, MHS Head Football Coach
SORSN: First of all, congratulations on your new role as head football coach for MHS. For those who don’t know, tell us your history both as a player and a coach for Midway football.
Coach O’Toole: I graduated Midway in 1998. In my four years as a student I was on both the basketball and football teams all four years. If you recall I was a few years behind you making me much younger than you.
SORSN: Introduce us to your coaching staff.
Coach O’Toole: Dr. Ron Treadway will be our OC, Wyatt Wilson will be over the offensive line and linebackers, Caleb Burton is our DL coach and assistant OL coach, Mike Johnson is our running backs coach and defensive ends coach, Shawn Fox is our wide receivers coach and assistant DB’s coach, Preston Fezell is an assistant OL and DL coach and Jason Devries is assistant linebackers coach and director of football operations.
SORSN: You open the season tonight on the road against Sale Creek. What can you tell us about the Panthers of Sale Creek?
Coach O’Toole: Their stadium is located at 601 Industrial Blvd Sale Creek, TN 37373, They will be wearing blue jerseys tonight
SORSN: What did you see that you liked/disliked from your Waves in the jamboree?
Coach O’Toole: I like the white jerseys that we wore, very sharp
SORSN: The facilities, especially the weight room, have undergone a lot of improvements in recent years. Is former coach Jerry Walker’s tanning bed still in the locker room or did it find a new home?
Coach O’Toole: We sold it for a pretty penny, how do you think we could afford all the upgrades! Thanks April for purchasing that over market value! I’ve never told Shawn the real amount you paid for it!
SORSN: It’s been said that you can tell a lot about a man by the kind of chicken wings he eats (i.e. boneless vs bone-in). What kind of wings do the 2022 Waves eat?
Coach O’Toole: Inflation has made us break the bank and can no longer afford chicken wings. Hopefully we can get some Hunts Brothers pizza from the junction to fuel our boys!
