SORSN Pick Panel – Opening Week

The Midway Greenwave kickoff the 2023 season with a home opener against Sale Creek.  Last year, the Wave defeated the Panthers 22-14 for 1 of only 2 wins on the 2022 season.  The Panthers righted the ship following the opening loss and got big wins over Harriman, Copper Basin, Pickett County and Cosby to finish out the 2022 season.

Who can overcome the opening night jitters and get a W?  Let’s ask the SORSN Pick Panel:

Tyson Canup (MHS class of 1999): Always Midway on week 1. I’m certain the coaches and the players have put in the work over the summer. Looking forward to the hard work paying off. Let’s GO GREEN!!

Chris Barry (MHS class of 2008): Opening week. Wow, what is better than the first game of the season? Not much if I remember correctly haha. I believe the waves will roll in this opening game. I got Midway for this one. Let’s Go Big Green!!

Travis Jackson (MHS class of 1995): Football time is here again! It’s the time of the year we all get to watch coach O’Toole act out his best Steve Spurrier impression with the visor toss. Only I’m not sure we will see this in week 1. The Panthers roll into south of the river Friday night but unfortunately they will be declawed by the Greenwave. The addition of some very experienced coaches and a QB with another year under his belt and some speedy skilled positions I see the Greenwave pulling this one out by 2 touchdowns.

Jason Lloyd (MHS class of 2000): It’s finally here! There’s nothing better than the kickoff of the high school football season, unless it’s starting the season off 1-0. Give me the Green Waves in a close one. Go big green!

Ethan Crabtree (MHS class of 2015): Phew, the time that everyone has been waiting for, football is back! The first game is always a jittery one because all the hours put in to prepare for the season are finally coming to a point to be used against a different team. I think the Waves are gonna have to fight hard to win, but I believe Midway will come out and finish with a first week victory! Let’s go Waves!!

Barry Boo Narramore (MHS class of 1812): Word has it we have a former Greenback coach on our staff this year. So the Green will have to win this week because we all know nobody from Greenback thinks they can be beat. Midway by 12!
