The Hook And Ladder That Wasn’t

The “Hook & Ladder That Wasn’t” happened in the 2003 season against Greenback, who was ranked in the top 5 in the state.

The Waves were struggling offensively. Our punt team had more playing time than the offense. So in the 2nd half I knew it wouldn’t be long before Coach Moser would go to the bottom of the play book looking for reverses, halfback passes, flea flickers, etc…………

Deep in our on territory, Spencer “Swivel Hips” Myers was lined up wide right. On the snap of the ball, Myers ran a text book 10 yard curl…..pass was complete…….setting up the ole’ “Hook & Ladder”. Myers made the pitch back to the tailback coming up the right side; however, the pitch from Myers was way too early. The tailback, who I believe was Brock King, was still a good 9+ yards away………a defensive back snatched the pitch in stride and jogged it in 20 yards for a Greenback touchdown.

And that, my friends, is the Hook & Ladder that wasn’t.
