Who’s Number One?

You’re Midway Greenwaves! The Waves remain the top team with a 21-0 win over Coalfield.

The fella’s in Green and White played like a top ranked team and beat Coalfield on both sides of the ball. The big men up front controlled the line and had Coalfield ready to throw in the towel as they hammered the Yellow Jackets for 4 quarters.

Senior QB Jude O’Toole and Sophomore RB Blake “The Mule” Bray both went over 100 yards rushing. Spencer “Swivel Hips” Myers came away with another interception as he and Woody lead all Knox area schools in this category. Myers also had a great game catching the ball…this kid catches everything thrown in his direction! But he had to make great catches to make up for his punting. Spencer, stop taking punting lessons from your Uncle Mike.

For 4 quarters Coach Moser screamed “Don’t let up! Don’t let up!” and his team responded. They pounded and pounded the ball keeping Coalfield’s offense off the field.
The Waves controlled the clock, they made fewer turnovers, and they forced Coalfield into long 3rd down situations. However, for the 2nd straight game, the Waves shot themselves in the foot with penalties, penalties, penalties. This will have to be corrected come playoff time.

H-U-G-E! That was Caleb “Don’t Call Me Superman” Clark’s performance. Coalfield came in with a player leading the area in sacks but it was Clark who was in the backfield. Caleb recorded 4 sacks on the night and truly left everything he had on the field.

At the start of the season, the “experts” stated the region 2-A champ would be either Greenback or Coalfield. Obviously they forgot to tell Coach Moser’s team that.

Congratulations once again to the Waves!

The Playoff Picture? The Waves have 2 games left: Oakdale and Sunbright. The Waves just need to win one of the two in order to clinch the #1 spot. If they finish as Region champs, they will play 1st round playoffs at the Emerald Forrest and continue to play at home for at least 3 playoff games if they continue to win.
