Lady Waves Drop Season Opener

Coming off back-to-back wins during a preseason tourney, the Lady Waves came into Tuesday night’s season opener against Rockwood with hopes of their 3rd win in 6 days. However, the Lady Waves were unable to overcome poor shooting and foul trouble and lost game one 50-43.

Midway scored only 2 points in the first period and it was easy to tell that they were lacking on the offensive end. Renfro got the 2nd period started off right with a 3-point play and Lyndsay Davidson, with only seconds remaining before the half, fired one from just inside half-court and it dropped in as the buzzer sounded; sending the Lady Waves to the locker room on a positive note.

The Lady Waves continued to pull closer to the Lady Tigers behind Davidson, #5, and Kayla Mundy’s shots from behind the arc. The Greenwaves pulled within 6 with just under a minute remaining in the game but it was too little too late. The Tigers escaped with a 7 point win.

The Lady Waves executed their offense and defense well and handled the ball well; however, they just were not able to hit the open shots. Fouls also plagued the Lady Waves all night, allowing easy points for the Tigers from the free-throw line.

Lady Waves look to rebound on Friday against Oakdale.
