Lady Waves Sweep Oakdale, Richardson Ties Record

Alex Richardson practices her hitting during pregame drills on Thursday.

In a double header at home on Thursday, the Lady Waves swept the Oakdale Lady Eagles. The combined score was 41-3. The story once again was the explosive offensive output of the Midway girls. After Midway’s starting lineup batted around a couple of times, the SOR reserves came off the bench and took their turns delivering some hits. Almost every player on the active roster got on base for the Lady Waves, with many of the starters turning out multiple base hits.

Sophomore Alex Richardson was especially impressive in the first game. After smacking the left field fence with a hard line drive in her first at-bat, she later went on to hit a towering shot way out of left field. With that blast, Richardson tied the record for most career home runs in Midway softball history. The record was previously owned by 2009 Lady Wave graduate Alex Coffman. Remarkably, Richardson tied it in the first game of her sophomore season.

Richardson and fellow sophomore pitcher Shade Narramore combined for a no-hit shut-out in four innings, as Midway cruised to a 23-0 victory.

The second game started off a little shakier for the Lady Wave defense, as Oakdale scored their only three runs of the day in the first inning. Midway soon recovered, stopping the attack of the Lady Eagles and dishing out more of the offense that was shown in the first game.

Again in game two, almost all the Midway starters did serious damage at the plate. With a combination of speed and power, the entire roster looked strong. When the second contest was over, the Lady Waves stood victorious with a final score of 18-3.
