Manning Throws No-Hitter, Waves Sweep Oakdale

Don and Mary Lou Manning prepare to watch their grandson Josh pitch on Thursday.

Midway senior Josh Manning tossed a five-inning no-hitter to shut out the Oakdale Eagles in the first game of the Waves’ double header on Thursday. Only four of the Eagles’ 19 batters reached base in the game. Manning struck out eight of them, finishing the complete game and picking up a 7-0 win in Midway’s season opener.

Midway’s offense was powered in part by senior Jacob Parkison, along with juniors Austin Keeling and Matt Jarvis. Keeling blasted a one-run homer to lead off the third inning of the game.

In game two, Keeling took to the mound and turned in a fine performance of his own. In four innings, the junior threw for 11 strike outs, giving up only two hits. The Green Wave offense once again rolled in this one. Midway took a 10-0 victory to complete the sweep of Oakdale.
